The model is from Huntingdon, the sword from Reading. It is argued that their early Viking style of decoration emerged in mid-8th century in Scandinavia, and the historical implications of its appearance in England are considered.

Argues that the size, quality, and complexity of late medieval peasant buildings have frequently been underestimated. W Midlands documents of 1350-1500 are used to define the main features of agricultural buildings and houses, and similar characteristics are seen in other regions. The origins of durable vernacular houses lie in 13th century with the move away from earthfast construction, and a series of changes began long before the postmed 'Great Rebuilding'. Au (abr)

Found on a stream edge, the sword has Trewhiddle style niello decoration on a silver-mounted hilt and is a pattern-welded Type L.
