Back to Brockley Hill
Fiona Seeley
Cheryl Thorogood
223 - 228
A review of the material excavated twenty years ago, concentrating on the most active phase of the site, AD70-120. The recent research addresses the amphorae and quantification of the pottery assemblage. It concludes the organisation of the industry implies that the production was zoned, perhaps a co-operative, and that whilst an important production centre, they experimented with a wider range, not entirely successfully.
A Roman vicus in Peckham
Rosemary Warhurst
229 - 231
Place-name and archaeological evidence used to determine the presence of a probable Roman settlement in Peckham, however, further archaeological evidence is needed to identify a vicus.

15-17 Brighton Road, Croydon: the investigation of a prehistoric and Roman site
Geoff Potter
232 - 237
A multi-period site with a number of notable finds. Although much of the prehistoric material, especially the struck flint, occurred in later contexts it does indicate earlier activity and possible settlement in the area. A LBA razor of considerable interest and rarity was recovered. Evidence of Roman activity on the periphery of a small settlement included an intrinsically important find of a fourth century coin hoard.
The Plautian invasion base
Nicholas Fuentes
238 - 239
A different interpretation of Dio's account of the crossing of the Thames to that previously offered (see also 94/458) which also disputes the likelihood of a settlement in Park Street, using this argument and coin evidence to suggest the likelihood of an initial settlement located in Southwark.
The provenance of some building stones in St Mary Spital by geological methods
Christina De Domingo
240 - 243
Details the brief of the project and the methods involved. The article concludes that not all the specimens could be sourced accurately, however, some material was identified as Firestone from the Reigate area.
