283 - 288
Archaeological investigations carried out in 2001 revealed late Iron Age/early Roman ditches, pits and postholes cutting a prehistoric soil horizon. The presence of relatively large quantities of cereal grain from the features suggests that agricultural activity occurred nearby. Similar contemporary features have been recorded from neighbouring sites.

Roman and later pits at 5 Billiter Street, City of London
Malcolm McKenzie
Robin P Symonds
289 - 299
Excavation during 2000--2001 revealed a series of pits but no buildings of any kind, the only structure being the brick lining of a post-medieval cesspit. One early Roman cesspit produced a very large assemblage of pottery, which may have implications for the accepted dating of some Flavian pottery. All the archaeological remains have been interpreted as lying in an area of open ground, but may alternatively be a reflection of truncation of the site.
