Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the removal of an area of pampas grass in the gardens of Holyrood Palace. The hole left by the removal of the pampas grass was to be reused for the planting of a mulberry tree. An E-W aligned wall line was revealed. This was at least 950 mm wide, and a maximum of 1.05 m wide at its W end. This substantial wall bonded by lime mortar likely represents part of the expanded 17th-century Palace, with its N face lying 13.30 m S of the S wall of the extant Palace buildings. |
