Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by AC archaeology during groundworks associated with the conversion to living accommodation of outbuildings, car port and construction of new vehicular access at Howden Lodge, Willand Old Village, Willand, Devon. The site lies in the historic core of Willand. The boundary wall that extended along Willand Old Village road was made up of number of sections. The position of the breach was situated within a section that was likely to be of 20th century construction. No archaeological features were exposed by the groundworks for the new drive, although the depth of the stripping was largely of an insufficient depth to expose the natural subsoil throughout. The footings trenches for the new link were positioned within an area that had been previously terraced for some former early 20th century outbuildings. |
