Abstract: |
Excavation on the site for a new petrol filling station revealed late medieval structural features, comprising the remains of a building or lean-to of 14th century date, which had been at least partially destroyed by the 16th century. Fragments of slag, suggestive of possible iron smithing in or near the building, a dense scatter of mussel shells and rubbish pits containing material dating from the 13th to 17th centuries were also recorded.
