Abstract: |
In April 2014 AS carried out historic building recording at New Pastures Farm, Warrington, Buckinghamshire. Technical analysis at New Pastures Farm allowed the evolution of the house and barn to be demonstrated. At its core, the house is of 17th century date although only one or two features survive, the rest having been replaced through repeated phases of alteration so that no early joinery or fixtures and fittings survive. Originally rising over one and a half floors to a steeply pitched roof which was probably thatched, the eaves were raised in the 18th century to provide further space at first floor level which left elements of the original roof truss surviving entombed within the later structure. The adjoining barn is probably of 18th century date but itself has seen modification with the replacement of the roof. Substantial work in the early 20th century saw the house extended with a new range at the west end in 1917 to provide a new entrance and high and light reception rooms, while at a similar date the rear range was given a second floor. |
