Abstract: |
Watching brief conducted on a Thames Water trench outside 388b Prince Regent Lane on the 13th January 2017. Two L-shaped trenches (c5.2m E-W x 2.7m N-S x 1.1-1.5m deep) spanning the pavement and carriageway were dug to install a new valve on the existing water main. Paving slabs and road make-up overlay a layer (0.4m thick) of modern grey stone backfill surrounding the main, truncated in places by various modern disturbances. Natural dark brown-clay, relatively homogeneous in appearance was encountered at a depth of c1m (c0.3mOD). No finds or features of archaeological interest were recorded. |
