Abstract: |
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken in relation to a proposed 48 plot housing development on a grass park next to Larkhall Academy, Larkhall, South Lanarkshire. The evaluation required an 8% trenching sample comprising of 1440m². This however had to be significantly reduced due to public paths, steep slopes, and buried services. The evaluation found that the entire area had been significantly altered in modern times, removing the chance of finding any surviving archaeology. In addition the field furthest from the academy was found to contain a deep deposit of 19th and 20th century rubbish suggesting that the area had been used as a town dump prior to its conversion to grassy parkland. |
