Abstract: |
Wheal Drea whim engine house near Kenidjack Hamlet, St. Just was acquired by the National Trust in 1995 and partly conserved by the organisation in 1999 as part of its West Penwith Project. In March 2014 the engine house was struck by lightning, resulting in significant damage to the upper section of the chimney. A programme of repair works was drawn up by the Regional Building Surveyor for the National Trust in 2014. The repairs to the chimney were undertaken by Roger Maclean of Carnyorth in late November and early December 2016, during which a lightning protection system was installed by St. Ives Steeplejacks. Cornwall Archaeological Unit undertook an archaeological watching brief and building recording during the works, which were managed by pdp Green Ltd. of Truro. |
