Abstract:
John Moore Heritage Services conducted two watching briefs at the church of the Holy Cross, Slapton, Buckinghamshire (NGR SP 93715 20690), a grade II* listed building. The first watching brief in 2011 observed a series of trenches around the church that uncovered a series of broader foundations, and also noted the apparent profile of a ditch through the churchyard. Surprisingly at this time no burials were noted in the graveyard, thus potentially indicating the probability of a low level of interment on the site over the years. The second watching brief in 2013 saw a small section of trench cut for the insertion of an electricity cable observed the remains of a brick foundation and a single grave cut.
