Abstract: |
Archaeological surveys undertaken on land and buildings within a 49ha site located at Foxdenton Lane in the form of a geophysical survey and an historic building survey of Ferney Field Farm and associated buildings. The research and building survey indicated that Ferney Field Farm was in existence in the mid-19th century, when it was a small farmstead of 18 acres. The buildings comprised a linear range, presumably including house and agricultural structures. Photographs and information provided by the current owners indicate that the property underwent major redevelopment in the late 1970s/80s, and this was noted in the physical fabric of the building, with only one section of the standing structures of historic interest. No architectural features were present to aid with dating, however it is possible it is of late 18th/early 19th century date. The geophysical survey identified anomalies attributed to agricultural use including ridge and furrow cultivation, a former field boundary and land drains |
