Abstract: |
Building record of an extensive 1930's psychiatric hospital prior to redevelopment of the site. Combination of patients villas and pavillions admin buildings, chapel and service areas retaining original exteriors and internal room layouts in many places. Chapel is grade 2- listed and is to be retained alongside the boiler house and front of the admin block. The rest is to be demolished. Many of the buildings are in servicable condition and the site retains its contemporary landscaping and system of roadways. High-status areas have Art Deco styling and build quality throughout is excellent. Already documented as being of national importance in the development of mental hospitals. |
