Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by GEW2 to carry out an archaeological watching brief for a new service trench running through the village of Ancaster in Lincolnshire. Ancaster is an archaeological sensitive area. It has shown evidence of prehistoric activity and abundant Roman evidence has been displayed through the many excavations in the area. The watching brief confirmed what earlier studies have shown. Roman layers were present throughout most of the trench. The rare evidence of medieval archaeology suggests most had already been truncated away with raising the buildings flanking Ermine Street, as well as laying the modern surfaces of the same road and installing underground services. |
