Abstract: |
Level 2 building record of a high quality 16th century barn and part of a 19th-century planned farm associated with Barham Manor, a fine Tudor brick house. The barn is semi-aisled with a butt-purlin roof and raking queen struts. The aisle wall is built from Tudor brick and the two end walls from 19th-century brick. Good studwork with external bracing, few replaced timbers and good pegging. The archaic curved wind-braces in the roof add dramatic effect to an impressive structure. A mullion window , brick threshing floor and hay/grain loft are some of the surviving features. The planned farm elements are typical brick-built cattle buildings and a timber-framed stable. |
