Abstract: |
Trent and Peak Archaeology was commissioned by Trent Rivers Trust to undertake a watching brief during the construction of a fish pass within the River Derwent at Darley Abbey, Derby, Derbyshire. The watching brief revealed that the artificial island was formed by the deliberate alteration of a land promontory which extended into the River Derwent from the village. Prior to the extensive modification of the promontory, a 15th-16th century mill, which was constructed from timber and stone, was in operation on the site and appears to have been in use for several decades. |
