Abstract: Border Archaeology was instructed by Border Oak Design and Construction Ltd to undertake a programme of archaeological evaluation on the site of a proposed development at Castle Close, within the historic core of Eardisley, Herefordshire, the principal aim of which was to ascertain the nature and extent of any archaeological remains relating to the former medieval urban settlement. The site is located in close proximity to the substantial earthwork remains of the medieval castle, first mentioned in 1183, and immediately north of the 12th century parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
