Abstract: |
This report presents the results of an archaeological watching brief undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group at Victoria Park, Haddington, East Lothian. The watching brief was undertaken to mitigate alterations to the existing listed wall. The wall is thought to run along the alignment of the former Medieval town wall. The watching brief revealed the truncated footings of the Medieval town wall. These were overlain by the foundation deposits of the present wall. The medieval wall was constructed of rough; clay bonded sandstones and was approximately 1.0m in width. An elevation of 0.40 m was recorded. A large sandstone box culvert was also recorded running along the northern face of the wall. This feature was 1.20 m in width and had a depth of 0.50 m. No other features, deposits or artefactual material of any archaeological significance were observed. No further works are considered necessary. |
