Abstract: |
Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Mr Richard Shepherd to undertake a scheme of archaeological monitoring during enabling works on land at Dove House Green, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. As a fulfilment of one of the conditions of the planning permission granted for the construction of an extension building, archaeological observation was required during the excavation of the foundation for this building. The proposed development area is adjacent to Dove House (a Grade II listed building built in the early 18th century). The watching brief monitored the excavation of an area of c.0.03ha which is situated alongside the north-eastern facade of the existing Dove House Residential Care Home. The foundation was excavated through modern made-up ground and cut into the natural clay by approximately 0.4m at its highest. No archaeological remains were encountered during the watching brief. |
