Abstract: |
On 24th and 25th June 2013 Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation on a 0.4 hectare parcel of land at land off Conksbury Lane, Youlgreave, Derbyshire. An archaeological survey completed in 2010 established that there was potential for archaeological remains at the site, particularly relating to lead mining from the medieval period onwards. As a result, the Senior Conservation Archaeologist for the Peak District National Park advised that an archaeological field evaluation be carried out in advance of the proposed construction of 8 houses on the site. The evaluation consisted of 3 trenches, one measuring approximately 20 metres by 2 metres, and two measuring 10 metres by 2 metres. All three trenches displayed possible evidence of past mining activity, probably dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. |
