Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken in advance of the construction of a single two storey dwelling and associated garage. Immediately to the South exist earthwork and cropmark remains of Medieval to early Post-Medieval coal mining works (MLE18779). . An additional prompt for the Archaeological ground works was due to the sites location within the former Medieval and Post-Medieval historic settlement core of Lount (MLE4508), therefore there was also potential for associated settlement remains. The Watching Brief proved negative for any archaeological remains. Heavy modern disturbance was revealed in the form of a very large undefined modern pit extending across most of the site extensively truncating/ obliterating any remains. Some undisturbed natural remained but no remains were identified |
