Abstract: This book provides a reliable and readable translation of the writings of the Roman land surveyors. Although these works were first collected together probably in the 5th century AD, this is the first attempt to produce a translation into English of all the most significant texts and to present them in a single volume, along with a Latin text and glossary. There is an historical introduction and commentary on ancient surveying and its historical importance in terms of law, society, and economy, and also the relationship of the texts to the identification of Roman field systems and settlements.
