Abstract: |
Three 20 metre long by 1.60 evaluation trenches were excavated on former pastoral land south of land already being developed for houses. Both study area and and area under development is separated by East- West Kingfisher Lane. Much of the development area has been heavily quarried for sand and gravel. However there was a possibilty that the study area may have been untouched by quarrying. However all three trenches proved negative for archaeology. The top soil depth in each trench was quite thin averaging 0.20m and appears to have been landscaped. The sub-soil was of a clean light yellow brown with few components up to a metre deep. The natural gravel was mixed with silty and sand, but appeared undisturbed. |
