Abstract: |
A topographical survey of earthworks previously identified as a small Iron Age promontory fort was carried out. A bank and ditch that cuts across the neck of the headland may have been abandoned before completion, with the rampart having origins as a geological feature. Earthwork cuttings recorded on the northern slope of the promontory have potential as platforms for round houses, although at least one cutting is likely to have origins as an extractive pit of unknown date. A series of mounds near the southeast end of the peninsula have been recorded as barrows but are probably best explained as pillow mounds |
