Abstract:
Archaeological recording of a feature exposed and eroding from the beach back cliff flanking the beach access track at Sedgewell Cove, Bigbury on Sea, Devon. The feature is a dry stone wall of probable post medieval date, visible on the Tithe map as a boundary wall flanking the beach access track. Its construction is consistent with other dry stone boundary walls in the near vicinity, in particular the wall extending along the northern side of Marine Drive which, although having been partially rebuilt, appears to preserve the line of a boundary shown on the Tithe map. A number of lithic artefacts have been recovered by Mr Garry Telloke (a volunteer on the Mount Folly excavation) from the exposed cliff face flanking the beach access track at Sedgewell Cove, Bigbury-on -Sea. The find spot was reported to Exeter Archaeology during the recording of a masonry feature exposed in the same section of cliff. The lithic finds consisted of 10 small pieces of pale greyish flint, comprising one narrow blade fragment, one small tear drop shaped tool and eight waste flakes.
