Abstract: |
An Archaeological Watching Brief was carried out onLand at Butt Close, Riverside Road, Sysonby, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. The site is close to known earthworks including The Butts, medieval or later archery butts, and other earthworks of unknown date and function. A metalled trackway was identified crossing the proposed site during groundworks. This measured at least 2m wide and more than 9m long. This track produced modern brick/tile in the trackway matrix of cobbles and can be identified as a track marked on the 1884 Ordnance Survey map. This track crossed the field between the church of St. Mary and Riverside Road and beyond. No further archaeological features or finds were recovered during the watching brief. |
