Abstract: |
This book began its gestation almost five years ago, at a meeting to inaugurate the English Heritage sponsored regional research agendas for archaeology. As such each of the chapters should be regarded as a view of archaeology for the new millennium, although some additions have been made to the texts over the last four years. I would like to thank Glenn Foard, in the first instance, for proposing the idea of this book and the various authors who contributed to it. They in turn have expressed gratitude to Christine Addison, Jenny Ballinger, Ann Bond, Jenny Burt, Graham Cadman, Myk Flitcroft, David Hall, Glenn Foard, Brian Giggins, John Humble, Michel Kerrou, Paul Martin, Andy Myers, Phillip Riden and Paul Woodfield for help in the preparation of the text. Charlotte Walker copied many of the photographs from the Sites and Monuments Record while Andy Chapman supplied still more from the Northamptonshire Archaeology archive. I am also indebted to Tracy Britnell and Greg Phillips who produced the maps and Myk Flitcroft for providing data from the SMR. Several individuals have been very helpful in securing permissions to reproduce material and I would particularly like to thank Angela Boyle, Dr Frances Healy, Dennis Jackson, Lindsay Jones, James Pickering, Roy Friendship Taylor, Prof Steve Upex and Paul Woodfield. Thanks also to Drew Grey and Dr Steven Hollowell for their advice on book selling. |
