Abstract: |
South West Archaeology Ltd. was commissioned to undertake historic building recording for a cottage and redundant farm buildings at Trelew Farm, Mylor, Cornwall. This work was undertaken in order to determine the significance of the farm buildings prior to a planning submission. Trelew Farm includes an interesting range of structures. The Cottage is by far the most important structure due to the survival and quality of its 18th century features. The painted wall panel(s) are exceptional and worthy of detailed study. Its setting is very intimate, but this detracts from an appreciation of its vernacular character. By comparison, the farm buildings are in poor repair and have been subject to extensive and unsympathetic alteration in the 1950s and 2000s. In their current state, the significance of these buildings lies in the surviving evidence for a service function, and their relationship with the Cottage. |
