Abstract: |
Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited was commissioned to undertake a level 3 survey prior to the proposed alterations and demolitions to Holly Cottage, No. 20 Rookery Lane, Groby Leicestershire.Observations made during the survey and from the cartographic evidence, the cottage appears to have been built by the early-mid 18th century as part of two conjoined buildings. Its later remodelling during the 19th century may have seen a change of use, from a small part store/granary into a dwelling, possibly a workers cottage associated with the slate and granite quarries established by the Earl of Stamford and Warrington which were active during the 19th century. |
