Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out at two locations at Bishopthorpe Palace, York. A level 1 photographic survey was carried out within the Undercroft of the palace prior to the excavation of a pump sump. Archaeological monitoring of the sump revealed clean, possibly riverborne sand beneath the current brick surface. An archaeological watching brief was maintained during excavation of a cable trench between the gatehouse and stables; this revealed topsoil over overburden. No remains of archaeological significance were noted. |
