Abstract: |
Between January and March 2003 English Heritage undertook archaeological investigation and analytical field survey at Longtown because of the threat to the archaeological remains posed by accelerating development in the village and to improve understanding of the medieval castle and borough. Previously unrecorded earthworks were surveyed and a sequence of development from the Roman through to the post-medieval period was proposed. (This report was originally numbered 26/2003 in the Archaeological Investigation Series.) |
