Abstract:		 This report begins with a general discussion of the history of the town of Nottingham in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The bulk of the report outlines the individual histories of the larger townhouses in Nottingham; it also gives an indication of how well these buildings survive today. The third section of this report outlines the detailed history and surviving features of Sherwin House, No. 41, Pilchergate. Finally this report attempts to assess the importance of Sherwin House in comparison with the other large townhouses that survive in Nottingham.
