Abstract: |
Archaeological investigations comprising a trial trench evaluation and subsequent monitoring and recording during demolition works was carried out by AC archaeology in advance of a road-widening scheme on land at Green Lodge, Stony Lane, Axminster, Devon. Stony Lane is considered to correspond with the route of the Fosse Way Roman road. The site was therefore located in an area where deposits or features associated with the road or adjacent activity may have been exposed by the work. Despite some disturbance caused by the former structures, no evidence for features or deposits that could be associated with the adjacent route of the Fosse Way were exposed by the work. |
