Abstract:		 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by CgMs Consulting to carry out a programme of archaeological evaluation trenching on land to the rear of Jenny's Lane and Ibstock Road, Ravenstone, Leicestershire, centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 40645 13390, hereafter 'the Site'. The work was undertaken ahead of the proposed development of the Site consisting of the construction of a residential housing (Planning Application Ref. P16-0764). The archaeological works comprised the excavation of six evaluation trenches within the footprint of the development. Of the original six trenches four were moved due to environmental restrictions and obstructions at the site. No Archaeological remains were identified apart from a small undated pit in the east of Trench 5. The presence of tree stumps and other modern interference within the site may suggest post-medieval or modern date. The archaeological results would support findings from previous work undertaken in the adjoining land and surround area that the land is thought to have been open agricultural land from at least the medieval period.
