Abstract: |
In preparation for the installation of a new heating system at this small medieval church on the Teign estuary, documentary research and a watching brief on trenching were carried out by Richard Parker Historic Buildings Recording and Interpretation. The church may have been established in the 12th century but, owing to unknown circumstances, never developed beyond a simple single-cell building until well after the Reformation. Late 18th and 19th-century increases in the local population led to its extension by the addition of several new aisles and a tower and, ultimately, to its replacement by a new church on a different site and reduction to its original size after 1900. |
