Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology (WA) has been commissioned by WYG Planning and Design (the Client) to undertake an archaeological evaluation at St George's Barracks, Edith Weston Road, North Luffenham, Rutland (hereafter the Site), centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 493710 304352. The Evaluation, consisting of 46 trial trenches, was undertaken between the 25 April and the 6 May 2016. Exposed archaeological features comprised of a series of prehistoric ditches and gullies as well as several pits ranging in both size and date. The vast majority of the archaeological features are concentrated within the centre of site, south of the existing disused runway. In total 14 of the 46 trial trenches revealed archaeological remains. |
