Abstract: |
A 2001 strategic survey of the county's urban archaeology concluded that the pioneering market-towns assessments on the mid-1990s by the Central Marches Historic Towns Survey were already in need of revision and enhancement. This was addressed by undertaking archaeological profiles for each town. The Ross-on-Wye profile includes an up-to-date gazetteer of archaeological interventions, a townscape characterisation with maps showing the dates (insofar as they are known) of each individual building in the historic core, recommendations for the future and an archaeological research agenda. |
