Abstract: |
Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Cordage Asset Management Ltd to undertake archaeological investigation at land to the rear of the Royal Oak public house, South Cerney, Gloucestershire. The investigation was carried out in mitigation of proposed housing development, secured by a condition of planning consent for the development. Previous ground works relating to the extension of the Royal Oak in the 1990s revealed buried human remains, believed to date to the early medieval (Saxon) period. The investigation was carried out between 05/12/2017 and 13/12/2017 revealed no further evidence of buried human remains or any other early medieval archaeology. Identified archaeological features were an undated linear, a potentially Roman linear ditch and a large post medieval pit which may have been related to the Royal Oak. |
