Abstract:
Archaeological attendance was carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) at Pingle Pets, Ashby Road, Barwell, Leicestershire LE9 8HW. The work was commissioned by Scott Hendry, in advance of the proposed development of a dog recreation park. The site is located within the boundaries of the site of King Richard III's campsite before the battle of Bosworth Field, as mapped on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey of 1886. The Victoria County History of Leicestershire of 1907 records the fragmentary remains of a 300 yard breastwork, although this was not visible to OS surveyors during an investigation of 1960.' An area of ground 8.8m x 30m was excavated during the course of the archaeological investigation. No archaeological remains were identified and no artefacts recovered from the area of groundworks. The fieldwork was carried out by Andrew Mcleish. The archive will be deposited with Leicestershire Museums Service under Accession Number X.A131.2018
