Abstract: Border Archaeology Ltd was instructed by JBA Consulting on behalf of Network Rail to undertake Archaeological Standing Building Recording (ASBR) to Historic England/RCHME Level 1 of Skinner's Lock Railway Underbridge Kintbury West Berkshire (NGR SU 38044 67159) prior to its demolition and removal. A site visit was undertaken on March 15th 2017 and a photographic survey made using a high-resolution (20MPX) digital camera. The survey is supplemented by a brief written account using readily available documentary sources. Construction work was in progress at the time of the visit but the bridge itself remained intact. Previous drainage of the river channel enabled access to the underside of the bridge to record its present condition and the remains of the timber piling structure. A pile plan was provided, which, wherever possible, informed photographic locations.
