Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by AC Archaeology during emergency groundworks associated with the repair of a burst water main in Bedford Square, Tavistock, Devon. The site was on the located on the west site of Bedford Square on the junction with Plymouth Road and adjacent to Tavistock Parish Church of St Eustachius; a position that lay within the scheduled precinct of the former Tavistock Abbey (National Heritage List for England 1020401). Despite the location of the emergency repair works as within the abbey precinct, the containment of the excavations within the limits of the exiting backfilled pipe trench meant that no pre-modern deposits were exposed. |
