Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land at the Equipment Works, Forest Road, Walthamstow, E17 6JF. Eight trenches were excavated across the site. Natural deposits were noted in the eight trenches excavated. Natural terrace gravels were sealed by a layer of brickearth. Some areas of alluvial/flood deposits were identified in one trench and seemed to be formed by localised flooding from the nearby River Lea. A sub-soil layer was identified in two trenches. Modern truncation was encountered in all the trenches and this was seen to be most severe towards the western side of the site, within the standing buildings, where a concrete floor slab from previous factory buildings was located at 1.2m BGL. Less disturbance was noted in the car park area. No archaeological finds or features were noted. |
