Abstract: |
In November 2013 a strip map and sample excavation was started during the construction of an extension to the club house at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. This was subsequently changed to a watching brief once the gradient and depth of the made ground made it impractical to strip the whole footprint down to natural geology. The foundation trenches were monitored and a single pit was found on the northwestern edge of the extension footprint. This contained three small sherds of Early Roman pottery and is likely to be contemporary with a large area of flood derived silt containing Early Roman pottery which was found c.8m to the north during the original construction of the golf course. |
