Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was comissioned by RPS CgMs to undertake an archaeological evaluation and watching brief on Land to the South of Canterbury, Kent. A total of 19 trenches were excavated and 21 geotech pits were monitored on a watching brief. Despite the active ploughing on the site and an almost absent subsoil horizon, an archaeological horizon was well preserved. There was c. 0.25m to 0.50m of overburden in each trench. The current fieldwork provided evidence of Roman activity on the southern part of the site. One Ditch of Roman date was recorded with evidence suggesting its use in a late 1st century -early second century. Post-Medieval archaeology was recorded. One road and road-side ditches were identified with Post-medieval materials associated with its use. In addition, a small residual assemblage of prehistoric worked flint was recovered. |
