Abstract:		 Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd, undertook a geophysical (magnetometer) survey covering approximately 170 hectares, on land north of Marston Moretaine (Marston Thrift), in advance of the possible submission of a planning application for a residential development, amenity and associated infrastructure. Anomalies indicative of multi-period settlement activity have been identified in three locations in the north of the site with a fourth area at the south-western site boundary. Some of this archaeological activity was previously suggested through the presence of cropmarks or has been inferred through the identification of clusters of pottery although the extent of the remains is more extensive than previously known. The majority of this activity is likely to be of Iron Age/Romano British date although there is also evidence for possible medieval activity. The results of the survey corroborate the conclusions of an earlier Archaeology Assessment. On the basis of the geophysical survey the potential for the presence of buried archaeological remains is assessed as low to moderate across the majority of the site, with the exception of the four areas of definite archaeological potential.
