Abstract:
Report on historic building recording at Carriers Cottage, School Crescent, Lincolnshire. The recorded buildings were known to be a former wheelwright's workshop associated with the adjacent Farndon House. Two phases of building were recorded, both early 19th century, including a wheelwright's workshop, a cartshed possibly doubling as a cart and wagon building space and a stable. Graffiti J ALLIS recorded in the stable probably related to John Allis, a carrier in the village in the 1850s to 1870s, and who may have used part of the building. Several objects possibly related to wheelwright's work were recorded, and include a small selection of tools and an iron tyre from a wooden wheel.
