Abstract:
An archaeological building survey was required as a condition of a planning permission for the change of use of an agricultural barn together with the erection of a single story extension to the rear to provide 4no. bedroomed dwelling house along with a planning application regarding a stable, both at Brinsop House Farm, Chorley Road, Westhoughton (SD 6355 0850). The work was carried out on behalf of Sparkle Developments by J. M. Trippier Archaeological and Surveying Consultancy. The buildings were found to be a Lancashire barn built of hand-made brick and typical of the early to mid 19th century. A shippon was added to the west in the early 20th century. The stable-built at the turn of the century- appears to have been constructed as a cart shed and loose box with a granary over,
