Abstract: |
Three 20m long trial trenches were excavated in advance of residential and commercial development. Trenches 1 and 2 revealed a low density of pits with medieval and post-medieval pottery. A small, possible post-medieval boundary ditch and a post-medieval drainage ditch were also found. There was a large number of features interpreted tree throws and rooting, some of which also contained medieval and post-medieval pottery. The area was agricultural land in the medieval period and later backyard plot or orchard. The eastern part of the site (Trench 3) was severely truncated by modern disturbances, most likely related to construction and demolition of buildings related to the extant Three Horeshoes Public House. |
