Abstract: |
An archaeological trench evaluation was undertaken in advance of a residential development. A previous historic environment assessment highlighted the potential for prehistoric, Romano-British and early medieval archaeology on the site. The work has demonstrated the potential for the survival of buried archaeological features and deposits that pre-date the construction of Granby House is variable and limited to the gardens to the north-east and north-west of the former house. Within the footprint of the building any pre-existing archaeological features or deposits were entirely removed during its construction. A single archaeological feature (a probable drain) probably pre-dating the construction of Granby House was exposed, and it is concluded that it is unlikely that the site contains any evidence for earlier settlement activity. |
