Abstract:		 Watching brief observation of underpinning and foundation trenches for a single storey extension to the rear of 24-25 Portland Street, York. Modern overburden was observed to overlay post-medieval horticultural soils relating to the site's agricultural use prior to the late-19th century. The upper extents of ?medieval? archaeology was observed at 1.70m BGL and a substantial amount of residual medieval and Roman ceramics was recovered.
